JETSETTING TO IOS GREECE

Does Ios Greece have an airport?

@lifeisabeachparty Ios Chora

No there is no airport in Ios Greece.

The only way to reach the island of Ios (unless you’ve got enough cash to pay for a private helicopter) is by braving the Greek Island ferry system. To get to Ios you will likely be flying into either Santorini, Athens or Mykonos and then hopping on a ferry.

Catching the ferry to Ios

Blue Star Ferries leaving Ios port

Several ferry companies run in the Aegean Sea but you will most likely be onboard a Blue Star Ferries or SeaJets.

Where you board the ferry will depend on which destinations you’d like to visit first and how long you want to spend at sea.

The quickest way to get to Ios is from Santorini – as there is no airport in Ios you can fly into Santorini and catch the ferry to Ios in about 1.5 hours.

Acropolis in Athens

Or if you’d prefer to hit up two party destinations in one trip, you can fly into Mykonos and catch the ferry to Ios in around 2 hours.

Your third option, if you’d like to visit the Greek capital first, you can catch the ferry from Athens Piraeus port in 4-5 hours. The faster the boat is, the more expensive your ticket will be.

For more information about catching the ferry to Ios and how to book, read my article here on How to get to Ios Greece.

My top tip for catching the ferry to Ios

Santorini Greece

Unless you can line up your flight and ferry times with 4-5 hours in between I would suggest staying a night somewhere then getting your ferry to Ios.

Delays can and do happen in the Greek Islands, and the airports in Mykonos and Santorini are about a 30-minute drive from the ferry port.

If you’re wondering where to stay in Santorini watch my video below:

@jetsetting_jacki I’ve stayed in all 3 of these and Oia is definitley the most beautiful and slightly less crowded than Fira 😂 BUT it is very pricey, particularly in the summer months. There’s also a bus between the towns but just be aware it gets CROWDED and there’s big lines in summer. There’s taxis in Santorini but no rideshare apps, so that can be pretty frustrating too. I’d recommend organising airport transfers early, i’ve almost missed multiple ferries/flights waiting 😂🤦🏼‍♀️ #santorini #santorinigreece #santoriniisland #iosisland #greekislandhopping #iosisland ♬ original sound - Jetsetting Jacki | 🌎📍✈️
